José Gregorio Hernández
Renowned doctor and Venezuelan scientist from the beginning of the previous century, loved by the public for his acts of solidarity to the neediest. A man of fervent catholic devotion. He lived from 1864 to 1919.
Died as consequence of a hit in the head after being run over by a car in the city of Caracas. He was run over while coming out of a pharmacy to buy medicines for one of his patients.
The people worship him as if he were holy and credit him with the power to accomplish miracles. In 1986 the process of his beatification is initiated by Juan Pablo II.
Work was shown in both the Kranenburgh Museum and the Gorkum Museum.
